Camping, Curry and Making your Soul Happy – #littleloves

So, we spent the last week and a bit camping in Cornwall. We were so excited to pack up the car, set off to the campsite and envisaged long, summer days – bodyboarding on the beach and drinking cocktails as the sun went down.  The reality was something quite different.  It RAINED. NEARLY.EVERY.SINGLE.DAY.

Not just a bit of rain, it actually stormed, thunder & lightning on 2 days and we woke up one morning with our clothes literally swimming around us in ankle deep water. Not cool.  We packed up a day early and literally couldn’t wait to get home to our dry, comfy beds. Holiday fail.  Anyway – post to follow on what we did actually get up to while dodging the torrential rain!

The #littleloves linky forced us to find some happiness from the week and I came up with these – Enjoy!

Mercy – Jodi Picoult – available on Amazon*

I found a book stall at a local market which was selling all of their new books for just £2 each.  Bargain! I picked up this Jodi Picoult book ‘Mercy’ and finished it in just under 2 days.  The story follows the court case of a man who killed his wife at her request because she was dying of cancer. A ‘Mercy Killing’ – it was a brilliant read and I even choked back a few tears at how she describes the relationship of these 2 people.  A good read, literally couldn’t put it down!

Wi-Fi on the campsite was limited but we managed to stream Netflix and a few YouTube video’s including our faves – The Michalaks.  This couple deserve so many more subscribers – they make London life look so flipping cool and their edit’s are AMAZING! I’ve even got Dave hooked on watching their weekly vlog every Sunday.  Boom.

Because of the glorious weather we just lived in our hoodies all week. I wish I was typing bikini’s right now.. but hoodies it is.  At least we paired our sunglasses with them so it looked semi-hot.

I know, I know – I must have been living under a rock.  This song was released in February and I’ve only just added it to my playlist.  I love it.  I’m pretty much loving a lot of Meghan Trainor at the moment.

Bit of a cheat.. I didn’t actually make this.  Niamh did.  She whipped this up one night over our little gas stove in the rain and she vlogged it too – Video Below 🙂 IMG_5143

And lastly..

Holidays always give you time to sort of reflect on life don’t they – the hustle and bustle of every day all sort of rolls into one and is what we call ‘Life’.  It can be exhausting.  I find this time of year stupidly overwhelming – running a business with 3 kids home in the summer holidays is no walk in the park.

Especially as the girls are older now, they aren’t entertained by things like softplay, park trips or half an hour smushing playdough into everything.  Their needs change and in turn, so do mine.  It all takes a little adjusting, a little tweaking and most days I feel like I’m never doing anything right.

Tonight I sat on my bed and forced myself to finish this blog post without getting up to do anything else.  I’ve been interrupted countless times but I’ve still refused to get up.  I’m not going anywhere until it’s written, tagged, categorised and scheduled for ButWhyMummyWhy’s linky in the morning.  I love to write, to take photo’s, to reflect on things we’ve done – I need to do this for me, it makes my soul smile.

Hope you’ve had a great week lovelies,

Kerry x

So we went AWOL for a while………

This is why…

We spent the last week at the gorgeous Trewan Hall campsite in Cornwall. I was a virgin camper so I was pretty nervous about the trip but I’m totally converted…. we had SUCH a fab time bodyboarding, swimming, bbqing, reading, playing and just zoning out from the real world for a while.

I’m editing all of our footage from the week so I’ll upload it into a vlog on my YouTube Channel this week – my only regret? That we didn’t book it for 2 weeks!

Have you been away this summer? Where did you go? What did you see? 🙂

Let’s go to the Beach ‘Each

The Beach.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it until the day I die… the beach is my Happy Place.
I never realised that until I moved to England after growing up right by the beach my whole life.
And now I miss it. Every single day. So … during the Easter hols we bundled Shan and the boys into the car and headed off to Boscombe near Bournemouth.  A quick stop at the South African shop on the way for our favourite treats and we were all set for the day.
And what a BEAUT of a day it was… Warm and peaceful and pretty quiet down there for school hols .. just perfect!

That’s my Ciate nail polish – new summer love!

Dave is a true camper at heart and decided that in order to get through the day he needed man stuff. Like a gas burner and a coffee pot. True camping nerd.

The boys played a bit of frisbee, stupidly funny as there was a breeze blowing so they were running all over the place.  It was at this point that I fell asleep snoring face down in the sand.  Slight embarrassment to the teenagers. Just slight.

Cherry Fizz Pops… a childhood fave of mine and now thanks to the Saffa shop, a childhood fave of my kids too 🙂

How grown up are these guys now? 16 & 13… Total madness!

Princess Shanah decided she needed a throne to which her humble servants (us) could serve her grapes…

Coffee and a fondant fancy on the beach? How civilised… Don’t mind if I do. 🙂

Where is your happy place?

Thanks for reading,
Ciao Mein

Heaven’s Gate

Last Sunday we found ourselves with just ONE child to entertain. Yip. Just one. The eldest two went to spend time with Aunty Meg and Shan opted to stay at home for some mommy spoiling.  I said she could do whatever she liked ( within reason ) ha! She opted to ‘go camping’ with a ‘real fire’
So we packed up a picnic, her tent, some chairs and our fire bomb and headed off to the lake.

Sparkly shoes are a MUST for these occasions
The lake doesn’t allow Open Fires. Or Tents.  Panic set in. We drove round to the other side of the lake to Heaven’s Gate to see if we could find a spot there…

No picnic spots here either. Time for a lie down whilst madly trying to think of a Plan B I think.

There is an intelligent story about these lumps of rock. Something to do with the a dude that lived on Longleat Estate (Heaven’s Gate is part of the Longleat estate) anyhoo… this dude whipped up these lumps of rock and when he died they displayed them here. Or something. I am USELESS with history and facts.

Pretty beautiful huh?

Longleat House – we did a review of this here… FUN day out if you’re in Wiltshire at Christmas time!

So… after driving around the countryside for a couple of hours we ended up……..

Back home in the garden! Ha! Tents and camp fires most definitely allowed here.

Sneaking hot chocolate into the tent. Yes. That is my awesome liquorice allsort pegbag you see photo bombing this picture of perfectness.

Sometimes the most fun is had in the sunshine in the garden. With hot chocolate. And camp fires. And a cute kid. And a tent. Simples.
