The Weekend Post #2 – Will I ever get used to the boys?

We had a pretty chilled weekend enjoying time with family, friends and working on our garden inbetween the spurts of b*stard rain. The weather forecast was completely wrong and instead of sunshine we had rain and cold and more rain. But we soldiered on and made the most of it and actually got quite a bit done. Boom!

Tay had a few friends round after school on Friday to just ‘hang out MOM’ so I grabbed a sweetie pizza from Asda as a treat to claim some ‘Cool Mom’ points. It didn’t really work as Shanah snuck it away from them as best she could so all that was left to present to them by the ‘cool mom’ was a pile of mushed up banana sweets and a soggy jelly baby.

I don’t think I will ever get used to seeing boys shoes at the door. Tayla is nearly 13 and has a large circle of friends – boys and girls. On Friday it was a 2 boys and 2 girls hangout and there was lots of awkward teenage giggling and chest puffing going on. MY.NERVES.

On Saturday my friend persuaded me to join her at the gym for a Spin and Lift session. 20 mins power spinning and 20 mins lifting. It was INTENSE. My muscles are still screaming at me 2 days later, but I’ve lost nearly a stone just by changing my eating habits, drinking water (yuk) and doing exercise a couple of days a week. I also treated myself to an early birthday prezzie – the Breville Blend Active blender thing. I freaking love this gadget – chuck a load of fruit, bit of milk, bit of yoghurt and a squeeze of honey into the cup, press whizz and BAM, breakfast done. Much needed after cycling to what felt like up Mount Everest and back.

Shan’s been bugging me for 2 weeks to take her swimming with her friend.  She’s had a really bad cold recently but seems to be much better so I decided to cave in and take them.  Our local leisure centre does a big fun inflatable swim on Saturday afternoons with a giant blow-up slide in the pool, so the girls were in their total element.  I sat on the side watching YouTube video’s and sporting this very sexy footwear.

On Sunday, my Dad treated us all to a yummy Sunday roast at a local pub and then came back to our place for a glass of vino and helped me put the vinyl letters on my pallet herb garden.  He did a good job and insisted on his picture being put on Facebook with the caption “High guys, I’m back in business” I do love that bloke.

*Drugs Disclaimer* Weed is a joke sign.. those are actually Marigolds.

Inbetween the rain showers (b*stard weather) we painted our pallet benches for the decking – it’s all started to come together now and I’m so flipping excited about it.

Shan was clearly exhausted after all of these shenanigans and crashed out early for once. Miracle! She falls asleep every night with this little mask on and it melts my heart.  She’ll kill me if she realises this is on the blog. HA. Lol.

That’s it for this weekend dudes – I’m off to work now.. Monday morning seems to creep up so fast on us these days. Luckily I love my job too so it’s not too much of a tragedy.

Have a great week!

Dragging them through the Daff’s – #CountryKids

Getting teens out into the fresh air WITH THEIR PARENTS is a pretty daunting task. It’s tricky. It takes bribery. And pleading. All of your dignity is pretty much thrown out the window.

Once they actually agree to coming out with you for the day (Go you) they may or may not proceed to stomp around with a face of thunder for most of the time you are out, depending on their hormonal spike that day. That hour. That second.

We live pretty close to the amazing city of Bath so we decided to drag them up to Victoria Park for a round of mini-golf and walk through the park.  Yip we bribed them with MacDonalds. But that came much later and was actually a total rip-off. Not even worthy of a picture.

Oh how I love thee Bath…

IMG_1081

The park itself is situated right in the city centre, although you would never know.. it’s absolutely stunning! It boasts a HUGE children’s adventure playground, crazy golf, tennis courts, skate park, botanical gardens and loads of park space.  In the summer we go to watch the outdoor cinema here too. It really is a gorgeous place to spend the day.

It was raining a little bit the day we went but we still pressed on, moody teen in play too.  The crazy golf was pretty busy and we were quite competitive with each other from the first hole. Ha!

IMG_1084

I think Dave won in the end, although our scoring system was pretty upside-down. Shan did really well and came in close second 🙂  After golf we took a walk through the daff’s. At this point the teens crossed the road because posing in Daffodil’s is JUST SO CHEESY AND EMBARRASSING MOM!

IMG_1088 IMG_1095

I did manage to snap this pic of Tayla though, I caught her unaware and I absolutely love it. It’s good in black and white too and I’ve ordered a print of it much to her disgust.

We had a fab day in the end and I even managed to get a pic of all 3 of them together for the first time in yonks.  Still little girls at heart 🙂

Cousin Love

cousin loveOur little speckle starts school in September. How can it possibly be 4 years since she was brought into our lives?  This kid screams cute, pretty, funny & she has the wildest of souls. She sure gives my sister a run for her money but I know she wouldn’t change her for the world.

My girls absolutely adore her and have the greatest of patience – she’s just like a little sister to them. So the photo…. I took this on Christmas Day, it was freezing freezing cold but these 2 decided they had to have their ‘PITCHA’ taken in their new dresses. I love how her hair caught the light and how they are reaching for each other’s hands. So flipping sweet.

So this is Day 3 of the B&W Photography Project – I was invited by the amazing Viv who blogs at 76sunflowers. On Day 1 I invited Emma from Life at the Little Wood and yesterday I invited Tracy from Momoftwosalums to take part.

Today I’m nominating Samantha from Happily A Housewife – she is one of my favourite YouTubers and is so super organized and lovely. Seriously, pour a glass of wine and catch up on her video’s, you won’t regret it!

Happy Wednesday dudes,

Canal Stomping – #CountryKids

A few weeks ago we set off to a local canal to have a welly stomp. The weather’s been so flipping cold so we haven’t got out as much as we’d hoped. I need to learn the art of layering  – my African blood can’t warm up in the cold! Anyhoo, we took the 2 younger ones and had a couple of hours discovering the barges, the eccentric but lovely people who live here and even found a heron or 2.

IMG_1250

What chu’ lookin’ at guuuurrrlll? Lol.IMG_1249

Although I couldn’t live on the river in such a confined space, I admire the people who do. It seems a pretty simple life. Almost everyone has a bicycle stowed on top of their barge and this one even had a Christmas Tree 🙂 IMG_1245

The girls found this old rope swing to have a go on, it snapped. I wished I’d filmed it. << Horrible mother alert.IMG_1244

This bbq was connected up by various wires to the gas thing. Improvisation people. Improvisation.IMG_1242

My story-telling heart wants to believe this is a veggie patch on top of their house in the summertime. So we’re going with veggie patch and not random chunks of weeds and grass.

IMG_1241

Shan’s at this stage now – the Chinese pose stage. E.V.E.R.Y photo I take of her has the ‘peace and pout.’IMG_1238

The Grey Hare was the Creme da le Creme of the boats we found, a lovely albeit eccentric man came over to tell us about her. I filmed him secretly but can’t find the footage, I’ll blog it as soon as I do because his story was so interesting and I can’t for the life of me remember what it was.
IMG_1237 IMG_1236A cafe on the river? Yes… a full-on teashop with indoor and outdoor seating. We didn’t have any cash on us but will definitely be returning for tea and cake!
IMG_1235 IMG_1230

I absolutely love this – ‘Life’s too short, Eat Pudding 1st’ – this was made for me! IMG_1226 IMG_1224I have no idea where she gets this photography obsession from 😉 How cute is that little tripod??
IMG_1222

I loved how this little girl was sat for ages just talking away to the swans. Oh the sweet innocence 🙂 IMG_1219

And that was our walk! We sort of stumbled across this by accident by searching local short walks in our area online, it was such a lovely couple of hours out in the fresh air and didn’t cost a penny, even the car park was free. Hurrah!

Happy Weekend dudes,

Let’s go to the Beach ‘Each..

It’s around this time of the year that I start LONGING for the summer. Although I was raised in South-Africa, right by the beach, I wasn’t particularly a ‘Sun-lover’.
I get REALLY hot. REALLY quickly. But I do crave the warmth of the sun on my skin.
I don’t ‘do’ winter. My friend put a Timehop photograph on Facebook yesterday of her kids building a snowman with the caption – ‘Wish we could be doing this again today!’
I couldn’t have disagreed with her more and named myself the Snow Grinch. Lol.
I mean the snow is pretty and stuff but MAN do NOT ask me to walk in it, or drive in it, or even to smile in it. It’s just not for me.
But the beach? Now the beach…. there I can walk & smile to my heart’s content. It’s my happy place. The sound of the waves, the feeling of the sun on your skin, the birds squawking away trying to nick your chips… now that is a happy place. A thinking place. It rejuvenates my soul.
Do you have a happy place? What are the beaches like in your area? Let me know in the comments, I’d love to check them out!
Kerry x
*pssst! I took this photo 2 years ago in Cornwall while they were prepping the beach for a polo match. I love how the little boy is looking at the tractor like it’s the most amazing thing he’s ever seen in his life. He literally stood there for ages just staring at it – that’s clearly his happy place 🙂

Project 365 – Week 1: Photo’s from this week

This morning while I was scrolling through my Twitter feed I saw the #Project365 linky being mentioned. I was pretty ashamed to admit that although I’d seen this project all over blogland last year, I never actually checked it out.

Until today.

I hopped over and found a wealth of happiness within the linky. So… without further ado, here are my photo’s from the week!

Day 1 | Happy New Year!

We had friends around for New Years Eve and whipped up a quick photo booth with these printable props and a roll of wrapping paper for a backdrop. It was lots of fun and the kids totally loved messing around in there.

IMG_1216

Day 2 | Cosy

Niamh took this photo while we were cosied up round the fire. Flipping good shot for a moody teen!

IMG_1245

Day 3 | Canals

We took a wander round a local canal and found lots of lovely canal boats to check out. Some were decorated for Christmas,  some had veggie patches on top and nearly all of them had a bicycle on top too 🙂

IMG_1167

Day 4 | More Walking!

We took a brisk walk up the White Horse in our new Xmas wellies – We’re determined to get good use out of these so we’re fitter, healthier and more adventurous by dragging the kids out for a stomp around our local parks.

And that’s a wrap! Link up your photo’s in the Linky below over at the lovely The Boy and Me’s blog.

Happy Sunday!

Rolling round the Haybales with the kiddo’s – #CountryKids

We’re lucky to live just below one of the White Horse parks in the UK. We venture up here pretty often to visit the horses, watch the paragliders or even Geocache.
One evening last week it was pretty warm so we decided to walk off our dinner and venture up the hill to the haybales. In our onesies. As you do.

Besties 🙂

The kids will be mortified that I’ve put them on the blog in their pj’s..haha! It was a fun hour spent watching the sun set and playing in the fields. Good stuff ya’ know? Good stuff.

Mom Time: Licking myself in the bedroom…

When you’re a mom you get very little time alone. You’ll never pee alone again that’s for sure. My kids LOVE to tell me their entire day as soon as I pick up my phone to call someone… Which is how this text exchange happened…
Yes. From now on you’ll find me licking myself in the bedroom so I can chat to my friend in peace. It’s all normal this parenting malarkey. 🙂

EFF you Brain Tumours – This time last year

What was happening this time last year? THIS. And it sucked. It still sucks…

*Update* Dad was operated on just before Christmas and spent double the time in theatre than we expected, 6.5 hours in total.  When he came round he was unable to move his entire right hand side but had managed to retain his full memory and speech – hallelujah! They had managed to remove most of the tumour and suggested radiotherapy to remove the rest. After 3 weeks in hospital, blood clots to his legs and lungs and sheer determination he hobbled out of the hospital, forcing himself to walk again.

This past year has been insane for him… After an intense shot of radiation in April which was a pretty horrific procedure, he still has limited movement on the right side and has been given a stick to help him walk which he HATES. He says he feels like the Pope hobbling around with that thing.. 🙂 He has now been diagnosed with an enlarged heart too and will go for his next MRI on Friday. We’re crossing everything possible, hoping that his scan comes back showing this bastard tumour has stayed the same size.

Last week he asked my brother, sister and I if we’d like to go on a cruise to have some Dad/Kid time, we leave next Saturday for 3 nights and I’m SO excited we have this opportunity to spend time together – I honestly didn’t think it would be possible this time last year.

My Dad is the bravest, coolest, strongest, most stubborn guy I know and I’m so proud that he is my Dad 🙂

What were you up to this time last year?
