Family Chaos

IMG_1271

This picture looks like it was taken by a pro right? Wrong.. it was taken by one of my kids… ๐Ÿ™‚ Tay was messing around with my camera and said quick… photo Mom, Nana and Meg – so we threw ourselves down on the floor to hide our fat tummies and cupped our faces to disguise our double chins. ย Tricks of the trade people! Ha! Every time I look at it, it makes me smile. It looks so calm and perfect, yet it was so totally the opposite. I do love this picture – in fact, I need to make it a priority to get it printed and put up on the flipping wall.

Day 4 of the Black & White Photography project – Family of Chaos ๐Ÿ™‚

So how does the challenge work?

1. Post a black and white photo each day for five days.
2. Invite another blogger photo taker to take part each day.

I was invited by the awesome Viv from 76 sunflowers,ย  on Day 1 I raked inย Emma from Life at the Little Woodย thenย Tracy from MomofTwoSalumsย and yesterday it wasย Samantha from Happily a Housewifeย ‘s turn to get in on the action. Today I’m inviting Julie from Mama Owl – an awesome blogger and mum who is local to me and makes me chuckle my pants off.

Happy Thursday peeps ๐Ÿ™‚

Happy – #TheGallery

During the Spring holidays we set off to Boscombe near Bournemouth. Our FAVE beach … it has a South African shop 5 minutes away so we stick the kids a fiver each and let them go wild on goodies for the day.
The beach is seriously my ‘Happy’ Place.  I totally took it for granted when I lived in Cape-Town as it was literally on our doorstep – now we’re 1.5 hours away and I miss it so.
The kids played frisbee, had a picnic, swam and built sandcastles. Not an I-Phone or a tablet in sight.
It was Fun, and relaxing and good for my soul.  I actually fell asleep face down in the sand and Shanah woke me up by saying: “Mom, seriously… you’re snoring”
Sexy personified.

What’s your ‘Happy Place?’

For the first time in ages I’m linking up with the fab ‘Sticky Fingers’ linky for The Gallery. Click the badge below to read more ‘Happy’ ๐Ÿ™‚

Walking with Teenagers – #CountryKids

It’s been YONKS since I joined up with the lovely Coombe Mill’s Country Kids linkup… Getting out and about in the winter with a teenager has proven to be somewhat of a challenge this year! But we braved it, put on a smile and got them all out TOGETHER for a walk in the woods..

Oohh a semi-smile!

Tay stood at this gate singing a ‘Frozen’ song… very dramatically…

Bluebells always remind me of when I was a little girl.  My granddad loved the garden and always told me stories about the bluebells in the woods – his whole face lit up when he spoke and I just knew they were Magical. ๐Ÿ™‚
About as normal a pose as we’re going to get around these parts.
The girls suggested this shot. Little David Bailey’s in the making I reckon. It’s also the road that took us to lunch. Whoop!
Wall of prettiness while we queued up for Sandwiches and Milkshakes

And hot chocolate. Nice bin in the background too. Lol.

All in all – as much as she would HATE to admit it….. I think she secretly enjoyed herself.

If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen this photo already – “If you see no beauty….Look Again”
We vlogged all about it too – check us out getting on Tube on You.
I’m linking this up to the fabulous #CountryKids linky over on the Coombe Mill blog.  Check out more posts by clicking the button below ๐Ÿ™‚

The Gallery: Selfie

This makes me laugh.. But also makes me kinda sad ๐Ÿ™

This week’s theme over at The Gallery is ‘Selfies’

I’m guilty of taking far too many selfies.. Not from a vain point of view… Just because I get bored and try to make people laugh by giggling at my latest beauty fail, mad hair or a huge zit.

Here’s a selfie of …. well myself.

Best photo of me yet
Do YOU have a selfie to share? Blog about it and link it up HERE to the Gallery. Check out everyone else’s too, there’s some fab ones entered there already!

Going to the chapel and We’re…..

Gonna get maaa–aa–aaaa-rrriiieeed!
Not me. One of my beautifulest friends got married a couple of weeks ago and I played the role of bridesmaid. It was a pretty big deal for me. I had to wear a DRESS. And have my HAIR done. And paint my nails. And all that girly stuff.
I even had a spray tan.
Yip, I was that committed to the cause. ๐Ÿ™‚ They had a perfect day and SO much fun. I took loads of piccies to share with you too. Enjoy!

Stunning fishtail dress… She looked GORGEOUS in it..
Having to sit still to have my hair done. I haven’t been to a hairdresser in 2 years.
It’s not that I don’t like the hairdresser. I just hate being stuck in the chair, unable to move.
Control. Ha!
It was totally worth it though, our hair looked pretty amazeballs!
The brides turn!
And.. the sweet little bridesmaids’ turn. French plaits never fail to make me squeal with mushy delight.
The flowers, beautifully done and I HEART those gerbera’s! Fave flower. Hands Down. Every time.

And Voila! Hitched! James looks proud as punch. And so he should be, she’s a diamond ๐Ÿ™‚
And there we are. Yip… I just about squeezed into the dress ( so much for being a Size 8 on the day!), it only took 2 women to push me into it. Diet Fail.
Our beautiful friends and their beautiful sons. I love this brood!

Boys will be boys ๐Ÿ™‚

Of course the guests were hugely sexy. And charming. And great drinkers dancers.

The bride is one of 9 children. She’s the firstborn, followed by 7 brothers and 1 little sister. How HOT does her mum look for having 9 kids?!

Speaking of firstborns… how grown up is my sweet Niamh these days?!
By this point I think the restricted breathing caused by the dress had gone to my head. This was my pose face in a lot of the pics.
Being chained to sitting in the hairdressing chair was well worth it. My hair has NEVER looked this good. Take note people, you may never see this wonderful moment again.
Check out this sexy beast!

‘Love is Sweet’

The bride’s Nan made the cake and did a stunning job. It was bloody delicious too!

Posing for a Shmagical moment

The brides Dad started his speech by saying he is not a man of many words so would be keeping the speech short and sweet, by handing it over to his ‘Short & Sweet’ …. The bride’s little sister read half of their Dad’s speech and I don’t think there was a dry eye in the room.
TOO SWEET!

Posers.

Overall a magical, beautiful, perfect, fun day.
Thank you for letting me be part of it my beautiful friends.
I hope you have squillions of happy, fun years together and beat your mum’s record of ‘Only 9 kids’
Love you more than all the chocolate and wine in the world.
A whole lot.

xx

I just found this on my phone. I have no idea what I was doing. I think i was showing you my funky hairband. And how ghostly white I am. Oh look, there’s my bed behind me – when it was still WHOLE.

Shanah’s precious ladybird that she is keeping FOREVER. Until she is old and wrinkly, apparently.

Lovely daughter being a pain in th b*tt trying to ruin my toe shot.

BlogCamp Bristol – An Observation

So, on Thursday (yes… it was definitely Thursday) I attended BlogCamp Bristol. Kindly organised by Sally & her team from Tots100 .

There are many fabulous blog posts flying around about the awesome content & speakers, go HERE , HERE , HERE  or HERE or just Search the Tweet Hashtag #blogcamp, and you’ll be redirected to pure awesomeness.

So I thought I would give you my observation.

MelkshamMum makes the most yummy White Choc Cookies which we munched on after lunch

Bristolian Taxi Drivers have awesome BLUE cabs

Mummy Bloggers LOVE their morning fix of tea, coffee and in my case chocolate filled pastries

There is a river in Bristol. It has Cranes alongside it

It’s Purdy

The Venue. Is pretty damn gorgeous

Mummy Bloggers are beautiful people who love to talk, and eat cake, and blog of course

I WISH I had taken more pics, but after the debate about Internet Privacy and Blog Anonymity (oh my gosh there IS such a word) I decided to hold it to just a couple ๐Ÿ™‚

So, Other Observations…. without pics

1) I LOVED MotherVenting ‘s green nail polish

2) I also wanted to speak to the lady in the silver sparkly hat – you can just see her in this pic above

3) I was imagining MummyWalker dressed as a Beaver for most of the train journey home

4) During RedRockets presentation, someone tweeted that they wanted to run up and rub Phil’s bald head. I  nearly choked on my stifled laughter…. waiting for a mummy to jump up and do just that.

5) I wore my high boots so looked & felt about 6 feet taller than everyone else. I’m a shortie really.

6) I wondered why I was trying to balance a huge banana on a plate for most of lunch.

7) I realised I love that I got my butt back into blogging and WANT my blog to be awesome.

8) I was Grateful for learning SO much, and for the awesome bloggers I am inspired by:

JennyontheSpot   &  MegDuerksen   to name just 2.

9) I wished we had Name Badges – Constructive Criticism… I am not a fighter ๐Ÿ™‚

10) I am Itching to sign up for the next one.

Huge Thanks to all involved who organised this event!

Now Clickety-Click-Click to all the links above and spread some blog love people.

From this little kitchen….

Comes a whole lotta cooking…  I am not one for recipes. I am too impatient. So I just chuck stuff together and hope for the best. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. That’s just me.

These were given to me by a very kind customer. He has been a regular  at our pub for 45 years!!
Peel & Chop em up, add a bit of brown sugar and cinnamon and cook on a low heat for about 20 mins, until they are soft & squishy

Naturally, I turned them into Apple Crumble.

Yummo!! Using my moms very easy crumble topping mix.. 1 cup butter, 1 cup sugar, 1 cup flour. rub between your fingers for about five minutes until it looks breadcrumb-ish. Bake at 180C for about 15 mins. Warmed up with a bit of custard… LUSH!

My new yummy invention. It looks gross. I know.

Cauliflower & Courgette & Broccoli Cream/Wine/Blue Cheese/Basil bake. Clearly I do not have a name for this dish.

I just chopped up an onion. Fried it until golden, added some chopped courgette (baby marrow/zucchini – whatever you like to call it) And a head of broccoli, 2 heads of cauliflower, some fresh basil, a big chunk of crumbled blue cheese, salt, pepper, white wine ( a good glassful) and probably 3 cups of cream.  Then I chucked it in the oven on 180 C (350F) for about 45 mins – 1 hour. It is so flipping yummy….. We had it with our sunday lunch. Oh.My.Word. It was good.

Even the kids ate it, I just told them it was disrespectful not to eat the Family Tree. (Broccoli)

And last but by NO means least.. I made up some FIG jam. My favourite!! You’ve gotta try it on cheese.. yummo….

mmmm… yum..yum…. What have you been cooking up in your kitchen?
